Pete Magadini - Bone's blues - Sackville CD 2-4004

Canadian jazz suffers from being treated like just another "territory" - local heroes are OK, but they have to ge to NYC to really cut it. Wray Downes, the pianist here never really broke through, but it was not for lack of talent. Don Menza gets support from drummer Magadini and bassist Dave Young, and the album whilst not in any way breaking new ground is a satisfying, relaxed pleasure

Walt Dickerson - To my queen - New Jazz NJLP 8283

Andrew Hill, the pianist on this session, seems at least to have gained some recognition of late. If there were any justice, Dickerson would be mentioned in the same breath as Milt Jackson, and the young Gary Burton as vibraphone stylists. This is just breathtakingly beautiful playing, in a completely different mode from what had gone before.
